Fixing "java.net.SocketException"
A java.net.SocketException error (often reported as “Connection Reset” or “Broken Pipe”) means the connection between your client and the server was abruptly cut off.

Common fixes to try
Section titled “Common fixes to try”- Power Cycle Your Hardware: Turn off your computer and unplug your router for 30 seconds. Plug them back in and try joining again.
- Refresh Your Session: Log out of the Minecraft Launcher entirely and log back in. This refreshes your authentication token.
- Disable VPNs or Proxies: If you are using a VPN, turn it off. These often interfere with the stable “handshake” Minecraft requires.
- Check Your Firewall: Ensure that
Java(TM) Platform SE Binaryis allowed through your Windows Firewall settings. - Disable IPv6 (Client): Try disabling IPv6 in your system network settings.
Stability considerations
Section titled “Stability considerations”- Server-Side Lag: If the server is overloaded or crashing, it may “drop” your connection. Check if other players are having the same issue.
- Client-Side Software: Certain “Game Boosters” or aggressive antivirus software can mistakenly close the socket connection to save bandwidth or “protect” your PC. Try disabling these temporarily to test the connection.
