Update Server Version

Updating your server to a newer Minecraft version allows you to access new game features, mob updates, and security fixes.

Steps to Update Version

1. Stop your server completely from the SquidServers dashboard.
2. Go to the Settings tab.
3. Locate Server Version (or Engine Version).
4. Select your target Minecraft version from the dropdown list.
5. Click Save Changes in the top right.
6. Check your Java Version setting! Newer Minecraft versions require newer Java runtimes (e.g. Minecraft 1.20.5+ requires Java 21). See Java Versions.
7. Start your server.

Caution

Always create a full backup of your server before upgrading versions! Downgrading a world to an older version is not supported by Minecraft and will corrupt your world.
